Frequently Asked Questions
You might have some questions about our process or services. We’ve compiled a list of some of the most commonly asked questions below.
Will you program my design?
In order to ensure the highest level of quality in the finished product, we only develop designs completed in-house by GLK. This guarantees proper UX, UI and development in the finished product. If you have a preliminary design we’re happy to work as consultants to ensure all the checks are met and will provide revised plans, which (if approved), will then be ready for programming by our team.
How do you charge for maintenance and updates after my website has launched?
We offer monthly subscription packages for maintenance and other small requests at discounted hourly rates. If you are not on a maintenance package we have a 3-hour minimum at $150/hr for updates, consultation, review, etc. Contact us for subscription pricing.
Do you host websites?
We do not host websites but will recommend providers we’ve worked with in the past. If you’re currently looking to purchase a domain or hosting package, we can help guide you on your selection. It’s best to wait until we’ve had a discussion on your website goals prior to purchasing anything yourself in order to ensure compatibility with our development.
I need content for my website. Can you help?
We will provide creative for all UI (User Interface) layouts (which can include elements like icons and illustrations). If you need copy written, we do have affiliates to help, but a general outline of notes covering key topics is required to get started. We also work with professional photographers, animators and video production teams if required and will outline all costs in an estimate prior to starting a new project.
Do I get your working files?
All of our working files are the property of GLK and will only be used for promotional purposes once your project is launched. We will provide final design files that are yours to own for things like business cards, posters, etc. All website-related content will be published online, and you’ll have full access to those files if required.
I currently have a website – will you update a part of it?
Every developer has their own way of programming a website. While it is possible to shoehorn in new templates, we do not offer this as a service as it can create problems in the future.
What happens to designs that you made for me 6 months ago
If you’re not on a monthly subscription package, we will store designs for up to 60 days. After that date, we clear our computers/servers in order to make room for new and ongoing client work. It is the client’s responsibility to store local copies of all designs provided by GLK.
Do I need to buy any licenses for WordPress or related plugins?
In most cases, we build custom WordPress themes. WordPress is a free open source CMS that does not require any licensing to be purchased. However, some plugins used to add certain enhancements to your site may require a license to be purchased. The initial license would be covered in the price we quote you, but for non-retainer clients, you may need to purchase a license in the future to receive regular updates for the specific plugin.
What is your payment structure?
For all projects, we require a 50% deposit at the start of the project. The remaining 50% (and any other expenses that may accrue during the project) are due upon delivery of the finished project or agreed-upon completion date (whichever comes first). For all monthly subscriptions, payment is due at the beginning of each month to ensure time allotment within the upcoming 30-day period.
What payment methods do you accept?
We currently accept payment via cheque, direct bank transfer, or Interac eTransfer. Please contact us if you’re an international client.
How are communications handled during a project?
To ensure nothing is missed, we prefer to communicate through email primarily. We will arrange for phone or video chats, if required, for walkthroughs and questions during approvals.
What are your hours of operation?
In order to achieve a work/life balance, we operate from 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday. All projects will include a project timeline to ensure all goals are met within normal working hours. Depending on the specific situation, we may be able to offer rush or weekend/holiday work, pending availability.
What’s the meaning behind the company name?
It’s how our parents would proudly refer to us as children when we would eat out in public. Those are some good lookin’ kids! (while we would be tearing up the restaurant with our rambunctious cousins). More importantly, it’s quirky and pretty memorable and usually brings a smile when said aloud.
